Wild man

by Fergus Grierson

Author, presenter, bushman, and survival expert Ray Mears is in Scotland next week, sharing stories from his 25-year career with audiences in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen.

Having written numerous books on bushcraft, woodlore, wild food, and survival, the mild mannered man of action became an unlikely TV star in the mid-nineties thanks to his down-to-earth style and the quietly astonishing range of his practical knowledge.

Armed only with his wits and whatever the environment can provide, Mears has spent his entire adult life honing his skills in some of the most hostile terrain known to man.

In an age of disappearing habitats and increasing awareness of the impact of man on the natural world, the 44-year-old’s back to nature philosophy and stockpile of choice tales carry the promise of an entertaining and enlightening evening.

Ray Mears shares his survival secrets at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, Glasgow’s City Hall, and Aberdeen’s Music Hall on successive nights between Sunday October 12 and Tuesday October 14.
