Fiery Festival finale
by Fergus GriersonWith the Edinburgh Festival finishing up for another year, all eyes next Sunday in the capital will be on the spectacular curtain-closing open-air Fireworks Concert at the Ross Band Stand in Princes Street Gardens.
Kicking off at 9pm against the timeless and unique backdrop of the Castle, the concert features the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performing a programme of Central European folk dance music by Brahms and Dvořák synchronised to a huge pyrotechnic display. .
Princes Street itself is closed for the night, rigged with loudspeakers, and set to welcome up to 200,000 spectators. Up to 12,000 more are also expected in Inverleith Park, which has a panoramic view of the citys skyline and a free family viewing area with big-screen footage of the concert to enjoy.
Traditionally regarded as one of the best of its kind anywhere in the world, the display is also visible from vantage points all over the city, the Lothians and Fife, with local radio and TV coverage bringing the best of the action live to homes across Scotland.
The Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert takes place in Princes Street Gardens at 9pm on Sunday August 31. Tickets for the Gardens and Ross Band Stand are £10-£25, with the fireworks visible all over the city.
