Queen’s Park Carnival and Afterparty is sure to bring some late summer fun to Glasgow’s Southside.

Multicoloured magic

by Gillian Harvey

So far, summer’s largely been a washout, but the Queen’s Park Carnival is set to inject some much needed colour back into life.

Held in Queen’s Park, the event is being run in association with ChildLine, with the aim of turning Glasgow’s Southside multicoloured with carnival fever, whilst raising awareness and making a difference to vulnerable children's lives across Scotland.

The event kicks off in the Queen’s Park, where a procession of costumed dancers, bands and floats will sashay down Pollokshaws Road, Allison St and Victoria Road, before returning to the park where the carnival atmosphere will continue with more music and dancing.

And as the sun goes down, the fun will just be beginning, as the Afterparty gets underway at 8pm.

More than fifteen top Glasgow DJs, including Optimo’s DJ Twitch, Buff Club’s Craig Moog Groove and the Art School’s Andy Devine, will take to the decks to spin some tunes for the crowds until the wee small hours, in an action packed night spread across two club rooms.

There will also be the chance to go into a Bedouin tent and try Shisha pipes and tasty food from around the world, complete with belly dancing performances.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to ChildLine in Scotland, the free 24-hour helpline for children and young people.

So if you fancy getting caught up in festival fever, and supporting a good cause, then get along to the Queen’s Park Carnival and Afterparty!

The Queen’s Park Carnival and Afterparty are being held in Queen’s Park on August 23.
