Dig history? Some of the fascinating finds from a major archaeological project will be going on display in Glasgow this month, at the M74 Dig Discovery Centre in Scotland Street School Museum.

Visitors will have the chance to view artefacts along with maps, plans and historical documents that offer an insight Glasgow's industrial pasts.

Dig sites included Govan Iron Works (aka Dixon’s Blazes), engine works in Kinning Street and Scotland Street, and Caledonian Pottery in Rutherglen.

As well as viewing objects, those will an interest in local history can hear about the past from those who took part in an oral history project that was undertaken at the same time as the dig.

There will also be the chance to watch videos of the archaeologists at work, and those who are inspired by what they see might even get the chance to do some digging of their own in specially developed workshops.

Uncovering Industry: The M74 Dig is at M74 Dig Discovery Centre in Scotland Street School Museum from August 8 until spring 2009.
