The write stuff

by Shona Craven

The 25th annual Edinburgh International Book Festival is set to be the biggest yet, with more than 800 authors attending and ticket sales breaking box office records.

Some events are already sold out but tickets are still available for hundreds more, including sessions with three of this year's Man Book Prize shortlisted authors: Sebastian Barry, Mohammed Hanif and Philip Hensher.

Fans of Scottish fiction still have the chance to hear AL Kennedy, Andrew O'Hagan, James Kelman Val McDermid or Irvine Welsh, and among the English writers in attendance are Tony Parsons, Will Self and Alan Sillitoe.

In addition to 'meet the author' sessions with fiction and non-fiction writers, the festival will host discussions and debates on a diverse range of topics including ethics, education, politcs and the environment, and sessions for aspiring writers covering everything from poetry and radio writing to self-publishing.

Edinburgh International Book Festival runs from August 9 to 25.
