by Shona CravenFront pages from a period spanning more than 200 years will be on show in Glasgow this summer as Scotland's broadsheet newspaper The Herald celebrates is 225th anniversary.
An exhibition in the main hall of the Mitchell Library will chart the paper's history from its early years as the Glasgow Advertiser, which launched in 1783, through to the present day.
Historic front pages will show visitors how Scottish readers were told of the outbreak of the First and Second World Wars, the turn of three centuries, and the destruction of the Twin Towers in 2001.
The display, which ties in with another Mitchell exhibition celebrating 500 years of printing in Scotland, also features striking photographs from the newspaper's archive. Selections include an aerial view of Queen's Dock (now the site of the SECC), portraits of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and an image of Glaswegians queuing at Canada House for their emigration papers.
Whether you're interested in the history of newspapers, Glasgow or Scotland, there's sure to be a story, headline or image to capture your imagination.
The Herald 225 Years, 1783-2008 opens at the Mitchell Library on August 6.
