Family fun

Fun week-long event, the Gatehouse of Fleet Gala, returns this summer with an exciting and diverse range of things to see and do.

Kicking off on Sunday, July 27, the event will begin in style with the crowning of the Gala Queen.

And the fun just begins there – those who go along can get the chance to take part in the pram and bogie races, horse and carriage rides, walking and car treasure hunts, and guided cycle rides.

Sports will play a large part in the Gala – there are tennis, golf and bowling tournaments to take part in, an orienteering competition to test navigational skills, along with a tug-of-war competition and football matches.

And those who are regulars will be pleased that the old favourites – such as the Gala Roon the Watter Fun Run – will also be present this year.

A Scottish Evening which is on halfway through the event will be a big highlight, with pipe and jazz bands and dancers and singers performing to the crowds, complete with a barbecue and refreshments.

This is followed up with the massively popular Torchlight Procession, which pulled in crowds of over 1000 last year, and rounded off with a bonfire and fireworks display.

But this isn’t the end of the fun - there’s also the Grand Parade along High Street, followed by afternoon entertainment, and the fun family day out, Party by the River, to look forward to.

There’s something to suit all ages at this fun summer event.

The Gatehouse of Fleet Gala is on in various venues around Gatehouse of Fleet from July 27 until August 3.
