Chocks away
by Fergus GriersonIts chocks away in the skies over East Lothian this Saturday, when the National Museum of Flights Airshow at East Fortune gets underway with an action-packed day of aeronautical excitement for all ages.
The annual event features more than two hours of breath-taking aerial display from high-octane modern military jets like the Eurofighter Typoon, as well as a formidable battery of vintage Second World War fighters like the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Lancaster bomber.
There are also a host of activities for families to enjoy on the ground throughout the day, with childrens activity workshops, fairground rides, displays, and flight simulators, as well as a traditional Punch and Judy show, 1930s-themed dance lessons, demonstrations from Glasgow Science Centre, and community art activities with the Fly Right Dance Company.
Airshow visitors can see the national aviation collections, featuring historic military, commercial and passenger aircraft and the only surviving Concorde in Scotland at close quarters, all housed at East Fortune. There are also freshly prepared meals, teas and coffees on sale in the sites Aviator Café and hot snacks from a host of mobile vendors.
The National Museum of Flight Airshow 2008 is at East Fortune Airfield on Saturday July 26, from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are £17, with concessions £10-£15.
