by Shona CravenForget the Lycra costumes and foam hands of Gladiators The Highlander Challenge World Championship at Scone Palace will sort the men from the boys with battle-inspired events including wrestling, jousting and stone carrying.
Inspired by the awesome power of ancient Scottish warriors The Gododdin, this major new event will pit two teams of National Champions, World Record Holders and Olympians against each other in a mighty battle of strength, stamina and courage.
Athletes including World Highland Games Champion Gregor Edmunds and Commonwealth Games Discus Silver Medallist Dariusz Slowik (pictured lifting a 200kg replica of the Stone of Destiny) will be among those competing in the event, which will be filmed for broadcast on Channel 4.
The competitors will emerge to the pipes and drums of Clann and Drumma, and battle re-enactments will transport spectators back in time to 700 years before Wallaces war of independence.
Braveheart fans wont want to miss this spectacular event. Just be sure to stand well back during the throwing of the two-handed claymore.
The Highlander Challenge World Championship is at Scone Palace, Perth on July 19 and 20.
