Skye's the limit

Small but perfectly formed, the Skye Festival (Fèis an Eilein) takes place at one of the most scenic locations in Scotland.

Holiday-makers and day-trippers will descend on Sleat during the last two weeks of July, joining locals for entertainment including concerts of folk and world music, theatre, ceilidhs and even an opera.

Scotland's Gaelic College Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the festival base and the location for the main programme of concerts, but fringe events will be happening at Armadale Castle and halls all over the island.

The programme opens on July 15 with a concert featuring Donnie Munro, John Wallace, Christine Primrose and Ceilear. Other highlights include a brand new musical about Bonnie Prince Charlie by Alan Reid of the Battlefield Band; a performance by young singers of Britten's comic opera Albert Herring, and a double bill concert featuring Indian musicians Diptesh Bhattacharya and Udit Pankhania.

The well-loved Fergie's Ceilidh Dance and The Funusual Family Fun Day are happening again this year, and other events with audience participation include a French dance evening with Brittany band Deskomp.
