Lances at the ready

Get ready to be step back in time to the 13th century for a display of unforgettable horsemanship, skill and daring with sword and lance.

Spectacular Jousting – Highland Tour 2008, is bringing some daring action to Urquhart Castle and Fort George this summer, with its dramatic re-enactment event.

Watch in awe as mounted knights fight it out with lance and shield, until one finally shines through and is crowned jousting champion.

Combat demonstrations staged in the medieval camp will really add to the atmosphere, and if you fancy getting involved yourself there will be a range of activities on offer to try out, such as archery.

Those who have a strong stomach can also learn all about medieval crime and punishment 13th-century style, as the castle is transformed back to the year 1297 when it faced attack.

This event was a huge hit last year at Linlithgow Palace, where it attracted over 9000 visitors – but this is the only chance to see the knights in Scotland this year, so don’t miss it!
