Our Dynamic Earth

by Graeme Smith

Ever wanted to journey to the centre of the Earth – or even leave it completely and look down on the planet’s surface like an astronaut?

Edinburgh’s Our Dynamic Earth comes pretty close to letting you find out just what that would be like.

The purpose-built attraction, just across the road from the Scottish Parliament, is split up into different exhibitions and galleries showing just how our Earth came together.

Earthscape Scotland is an external gallery which shows how Scotland has travelled across the surface of the Earth. State of the Earth looks at the world’s population, its weather, and its active volcanoes. Time Machine takes you back 15,000 million years to the Big Bang. And there’s much, much more fun for all the family, using state-of-the-art technology to tell the real story of our big, blue home.

Our Dynamic Earth is open 10am-5pm Wednesday to Sunday from November to March, 10am-5pm daily from April to June and September, and 10am-6pm daily in July and August. Tickets range from £1.50 to £8.95, and there are various explorer tickets which offer discounts for family entry and the opportunity to return as many times as you like in a year.
