Superbikes in the Square
Glasgow 's George Square is set to be transformed into a high-octane race track on Wednesday, as the elite of British and world motorcycle racing gather for Superbikes in the Square.
One of the UK’s biggest street racing events, and a curtain-raiser for the Scottish legs of the ViSK British Superbike Championship at Knockhill this weekend, Superbikes lets fans meet the riders and enjoy the action as they race their high powered bikes around the heart of Glasgow’s city centre.
Back for a third year, the free event gets underway from 2.30pm, when the riders arrive in the special open to the public ‘pit and paddock’ area. Warm up activities are from 4pm, before the racing starts at 5.30pm. Live music and entertainment comes from German pop act Cascada, Scottish girl-band Atlanta, and the Scottish Rockettes.
Among the riders expected is Hawick-born Hydrex Honda rider Stuart Easton, who said: “This street event is unique in the BSB calendar and I know all the riders love to perform for their fans in such a unique setting.”
With more than 20,000 spectators expected on what promises to be a very warm and sunny day, those fans are advised to arrive in plenty of time to bag a good spot.
