Scotcheer National Championships

Scotcheer National Championships

Gimme an S! Gimme an E! Gimme a C! Gimme another C! What’s that spell?

Erm… SECC. Which is where the Scotcheer National Championships are being held this April. Well, actually they’re at the Clyde Auditorium (Armadillo) next door, but there just isn’t space to spell that out.

…Gimme an M! Gimme a bracket! Gimme an A…

See? Doesn’t work.

Anyway, billed as Scotland’s premier cheerleading event, no less, Scotcheer provides a chance for local exponents of the ancient American art of shouting at sportsmen while wearing a very short skirt to strut, cartwheel and high-kick their stuff in competition.

And, make no mistake, this is serious stuff. Cheerleaders argue that in order to be able to do the most advanced moves they need to be at least as athletic as the sportsmen on the field.

Saturday, April 10, sees highly-choreographed pom-pom-wavers from all over the UK compete in preliminary events, with the final on Sunday.

All Cheer team, Cheer speciality & Cheer Dance team divisions will be on the Saturday. All Pom, Jazz, Hip Hop, Open and Variety divisions will be on the Sunday.
