The award winning Kirkintilloch Canal Festival will be back for a weekend of riparian revelry at the end of August.

Kicking-off at 7pm on Saturday 29th August, the new Southbank Marina in Kirkintilloch will host a free evening of family entertainment, including live music, boat trips and much more.

On Sunday, 30th August, the activities are launched with a colourful street parade at 12pm, and include fun fairs, waterside entertainment, arts and craft markets and boat trips along the Forth and Clyde Canal.

This festival is a fantastic day out for the whole family centered around Kirkintilloch’s parks and focussing on the town’s canals’ heritage.

Kirkintilloch Canal Festival started life in 2000 as a small open day called Coppers and Canals but has grown in popularity and size and now attracts thousands of people every summer.

In 2007 the festival was nominated for a VisitScotland Thistle Award under Best Regional Event category. It’s organised by East Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with British Waterways, Strathclyde Police, Peel Park Community Heritage Association, The Regent Centre, Seagull Trust, Forth & Clyde Canal Society, the Auld Kirk Museum, the Kirkintilloch’s Initiative and East Dunbartonshire Campus for Further & Higher Education.

Kirkintilloch, the official Canal Capital of Scotland, will once again be a hub activity with the popular annual Canal Festival. Expect family entertainment, boat trips and more. Saturday Evening: Waterside circus and entertainment (free) boat trips (ticketed) at the new Southbank Marina. Folk music in Peel Park (ticketed). Sunday: Colourful street parade celebrating the Canal, Boat trips along the Canal, fun fairs, waterside entertainment, markets, heritage displays and much much more (no entrance fee).
