Jack Knox, RSA RSW RGI - Retrospective , Paintings & Drawings 1956-2014
An important artist and influential educator, Jack Knox's career spans over 40 decades. A Graduate of Glasgow School of Art - a 'Glasgow Boy' of the 1950's era, he has won many awards. He was a lecturer in Drawing and Painting for 16 years in Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, before returning to Glasgow to take up the appointment of Head of Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 1981. Knox has had numerous one-man exhibitions throughout the UK and further afield. He has participated in group exhibitions as far apart as Chicago, Warsaw, Brussels, New York, Dusseldorf, Vienna, San Paolo and Sarajevo. A regular exhibitor in the New Charing Cross Gallery, Glasgow in the 1960's, he has exhibited at Compass Gallery since its inception. He is an excellent example of an accomplished and committed artist who has managed to bridge the proverbial 'generation gap' at each succesful stage of his career. He has been able to do this through his continuing interest and enthusiastic involvement of the interests and affairs of his colleagues and contemporaries, both at home and in the wider field of the changing Art Movement in Europe and America. We hope that you will visit this important exhibition of Jack Knox, who may be considered as one of Scotland's Modern Masters.
