George’s Marvellous Medicine

A new stage production based on Roald Dahl’s kids classic George’s Marvellous Medicine is coming to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 July.

Written by leading children’s playwright David Wood, the play presented by Birmingham Stage Company - responsible for numerous stage versions of classic books including Horrible Histories, Why the Whales Came and The Jungle Book.

Dunfermline born actor Clark Devlin (pictured) takes the title role in the only Scottish dates of a UK tour stretching into next spring.

With its trademark elements of fantasy in an everyday setting, a quick-witted child, ghastly grown-ups, and lashings of Dahl’s cutting humour, the book met with instant acclaim on its release in 1981.

Tired of being bullied by his horrible grandmother, young George Kranky creates a revolting concoction from items found around his parent’s farm in a bid to cure her of her terrible temper - with unexpected results!

So, if the summertime blues strike during the school holidays, a dose of George’s Marvellous Medicine could be - ahem - just what the doctor ordered. You know, ‘the doctor’… ‘medicine’… you take ‘a dose’ of ‘medicine’ … ah, forget it… But, you know, don’t. Forget it. The play, I mean…
