Their obsession brings the wooden substitute to life, but their new 'child' quickly develops a very big appetite, and he isn't vegetarian...
Vanishing Point, the company behind last year's Fringe hit Subway, has adapted Jan Svankmajer's 2000 fantastical film of the same name, in collaboration with the National Theatre of Scotland and the Citizens' Theatre.
There are echoes of Little Shop of Horrors and Rosemary's Baby in this twisted tale, which takes a sideways look at parenting and consumerism.
Acclaimed actor Sandy Grierson, who won Best Male Performance at last year's Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) and also helped director Matthew Lenton to adapt the piece, heads a cast of nine that also includes Pauline Goldsmith and Ann Scott-Jones.
Little Otik opens at the Citizens' Theatre, Glasgow on May 21, and tours to Eden Court and Perth Theatre in June.
