Fancy footwork
by Michael McCartneyStriking while the iron's hot, Simply Ballroom foxtrots into Glasgow and Edinburgh while the nation is still spinning from the latest celebrity ballroom dancing TV show.
Simply Ballroom is a stage show designed to capitalise on the massive success of the BBCs similarly named entertainment show, and offers almost as much glitz and glamour.
Originally presented a few years ago by Lionel Blair, the latest edition features Sam Kane and Sophie Lawrence and the MCs. Two the TV shows dancing stars, Erin Boag and Anton Du Beke, put together the steps for a dazzling cast of international champions to strut their way through the waltz, cha-cha, salsa, rhumba and many more.
Directing is Alan Harding, the brains behind several Royal Variety Shows, and the on-stage masterclass will appeal as much to seasoned fans of ballroom dance as it does to armchair fans and novices.
Simply Ballroom is at the Edinburgh Playhouse on May 6 and the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow on May 7.
