Making your mind up
by Michael PringleThe biggest-selling show of last years Edinburgh Fringe is coming to Glasgow.
The King's Theatre is the second leg of a UK tour for Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision, which will end up in Londons West End.
The show is the brainchild of ex-pat songwriter Craig Christie who lives down under. He was disappointed to discover that despite being a UK passport holder, he was ineligible to write a song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Consequently he decided to create a themed musical.
Audience participation is key to this production; on arrival each member of the audience is allocated a country. Ten performances, one from each of the countries then take place and the audience is able to vote for their favourite. Just as in Eurovision, you cant vote for the act representing your own country.
Hosting the show will be camp comedian Craig Hill and Sally Lindsay, who is best known for playing Sally Unwin in Coronation Street. Terry Wogan will whip up the crowd from a giant screen to help give that authentic Eurovision feel.
As the voting is for real and there could be a different winner every night, expect some underhand tactics and bribery as the cast competes to be crowned the Eurovision song contest winner... well, almost!
Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision is at the King's Theatre, Glasgow from April 22 to 26. It's at is at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre from June 2 to 5.
