2008 is the 20th anniversary of the Lockerbie disaster, and a young theatre company is marking the occasion by staging a powerful play about the aftermath of the devastating terror attack.

Deborah Brevoort’s play was inspired by the efforts of local women who cleaned, pressed and packaged up the belongings of the 270 people who died after Pan Am Flight 103 exploded and landed in the small Scottish town.

Director John Naples-Campbell directed and acclaimed community production of the play in 2006 in Dumfries. In preparation for this, the official Scottish premiere, the cast have visited the crashed site and spoken to those who were there. ‘Everyone is emotionally drained by the end of each rehearsal,’ he has said. ‘We want to honour all those who died and all those who helped.’

The Women of Lockerbie is at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh from April 15 to 18.
