Double trouble

by Alison Rennie

A treat for comedy fans on the east and west coast this week with performances from two legendary comedians.

After giving up his day-job as a YMCA warden, Glaswegian comic Stu Who? has been a regular on the comedy circuit for nearly 20 years.

Experienced at playing in many of the major venues throughout the UK, he returns to Glasgow for a three-night stint at Jongleurs alongside Kevin Dewsbury, Mickey Hutton and Dave Johns.

And over on the east coast, Ian Cognito (pictured) gets a rare outing at the Stand in Edinburgh.

Marking his comeback after taking time out to write a book, Ian could almost be described as a comedy veteran. But unlike his contemporaries Jack Dee and Frank Skinner, is less well known as he has proudly never appeared on TV.

Something he’s not proud of however is being banned from more comedy venues in the UK than any other comedian.

His vitriolic, honest and challenging comedy isn’t for everyone. But as he reminds his audiences at the end of a gig, “they’re only jokes”.

Stu Who? appears at Jongleurs in Glasgow from Thursday, March 27 till Saturday, March 29 and Ian Cognito is at the Stand in Edinburgh on the same nights.
