what?
Tom and hannah have been platonic friends for 10 years. When she gets
engaged he realises that she may be the one for him and goes about
trying to win her affections.
As romantic comedies go, Made of Honour is okay but not up there with the likes of My Best Friend's Wedding.
Tom (Patrick Dempsey) has a bit of a thing for Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) but refuses to admit it. It is only when she moves to Scotland does he realise that he actually loves her.
In Scotland, Hannah is bowled over by the handsome Colin (Kevin McKidd) and agrees to marry him. Because they are pals, in a spirit of comic irony, she invites Tom to be her maid of honour.
So poor Tom has to watch his best friend and woman he loves marry someone else. Or does he?
This is generic cookie cutter stuff but it is made watchable by a decent cast giving deft performances. As well as the three leads the film also features bright but brief contributions from the likes of Kathleen Quinlan, Sydney Pollack and James Sikking.
Director Paul Weilland is better known for Mr Bean and some successful commercials but he has a light touch as he showed with the unfairly neglected Sixty Six.
Made of Honor isn't going to tear up too many trees at the box office but with Weilland's confident directing and Dempsey's 'Doctor McDreamy' fan base it should find an audience.
