“Tell me something nice,” says Gregoire to his children as he phones home. One wonders why he should need the added comforting, given his loving family, his two picture perfect homes and his exciting job as a film producer.
As French writer director Mia Hansen-Love’s exquisitely rendered tale unfolds, we see that Gregoire and his life are not all they seem.
Massively in debt, all Gregoire can see before him is the end of his dreams. As much about the film business as it is about one man’s descent into depression, this is an enormously assured second feature from Hansen-Love. A measured, intelligent, moving watch.
