  • Starring: Dominique Pinon, Dany Boon, Yolande Moreau, André Dussollier, Jean-Pierre Marielle, Julie Ferrier, Dominique Bettenfeld
  • Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
  • Duration: 104 mins
  • Year: 2010

The latest dazzlingly cinematic outing from Jean- Pierre Jeunet is a satire on the arms trade which grounds this director's cinema of fantasy firmly in reality. Dany Boon leads a terrific cast in a thrilling comedy about one man's plan to destroy two big weapons manufacturers, with a little help from his friends. Jeunet's amazing visual vocabulary and hyperactive imagination provide the foundation for all his cinematic creations (Delicatessen, Amelie), and this ability to be both playful and serious is used to devastating effect in his latest piece of movie magic.

Alison Rowat's Review

Another riot of colour and invention from the director of Amelie, Delicatessen, and A Very Long Engagement.

Bohemian Bazil (Dany Boon) has had one too many run-ins with the arms industry. He lost his dad to a landmine, and a stray bullet almost cost him his own life.

He resolves to fight back against the merchants of destruction and finds some brothers and sisters in arms to help.

Shades of Jeunet’s earlier film efforts combine with silent comedy routines and movie references galore to make for a film that fizzes with fun and invention.

How much it overstays its welcome slightly depending on your kookiness tolerance levels, but there’s lots here to enjoy.
