Jane is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has -- after a decade of divorce -- an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake. But when Jane and Jake find themselves out of town for their son's college graduation, things start to get complicated. An innocent meal together turns into the unimaginable -- an affair. With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness, Jane is now, of all things, the other woman. Caught in the middle of their renewed romance is Adam, an architect hired to remodel Jane's kitchen. Healing from a divorce of his own, Adam starts to fall for Jane, but soon realises he's become part of a love triangle. Should Jane and Jake move on with their lives, or is love truly lovelier the second time around? It's -- complicated.

Alison Rowat's Review
Its not that complicated, as it turns out. Without the presence of Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin, Nancy Meyers romantic comedy about a divorced couple getting together again would be a near unbearable orgy of smugness. With them, its a harmless enough dollop of escapism.
After being apart for ten years, Streeps Jane and Baldwins Jake have fallen into bed together. Problem is, hes now married to someone else. WThis being Myers, purveyor of The Holiday and What Women Want, there is a lot in Its Complicated to give the old cringe muscles a good workout. Drunken dancing and lines like We both grew into the people we wanted to be are the least of it.
But theres no denying the comedy class of Streep and Baldwin, currently enjoying new-found coolness as the star of TVs 30 Rock. Adding to the retro feel of the piece is Steve Martin, playing an architect who is sweet on Jane. And its all wrapped up in a big red bow with picture perfect homes and not a financial care in sight. Simple, really.
