Caius Martius 'Coriolanus', a revered and feared Roman General is at odds with the city of Rome and his fellow citizens. Pushed by his controlling and ambitious mother Volumnia to seek the exalted and powerful position of Consul, he is loath to ingratiate himself with the masses whose votes he needs in order to secure the office. When the public refuses to support him, Coriolanus's anger prompts a riot that culminates in his expulsion from Rome. The banished hero then allies himself with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius to take his revenge on the city.

Alison Rowat's Review
Delivering Shakespeare as younger audiences might like it is the battle plan of Ralph Fiennes in his directorial debut.
RSC stalwarts Fiennes, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox join forces with Paisleys own Gerard Butler and Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life) to update one of the playwrights bloodiest tragedies.
Shot in Belgrade, with echoes of the Balkans conflict, Fiennes maintains an impressive pace throughout. It still feels like English homework at times, but terrific fight scenes, and a powerhouse turn from Butler, cheer things up no end.
Watch out for Jon Snow of Channel 4 News playing a Shakespeare-spouting broadcaster. Dont give up the evening job, mate.
