Alison Rowat's Review

Renee Zellweger ditches the slap and dons the comfy shoes of a social worker (a move henceforth known in the business, post-Precious, as “doing a Mariah Carey”) in this old school horror.

Emily (Zellweger) has seen many a heartbreaking situation in her job, but case number 39, involving a little girl who says her parents want to send her to hell, hits home and she steps in to foster the child herself. Maybe not the wisest move.

Christian Alvart (Antibodies) has a flair for ghoulish horror, and Zellweger is really rather good in what for her is a serious role. Just a pity that last year’s Orphan beat them to the punch, story-wise, and the score, all shrieking notes and chimes of doom, is a shocker.
