Visually arresting study of grief in the windswept Cotwolds where a close-knit community struggles to come to terms with the untimely demise of schoolgirl from a drugs overdose. As the dead girl's boyfriend Rob wrestles with grief and guilt, classmates like such as Larry and his girlfriend Rachel face their own trials and tribulations, all hoping for salvation from the pain.

Welcome to Duane Hopkins's Britain, a beautifully shot land on which misery falls like hailstones. Hopkins's acclaimed shorts, Field and Love Me or Leave Me Alone, marked him out as a young British writer-director to watch. His first feature follows depressing characters engaged in various wretched pursuits, drug-taking chief among them. If you can bear the gloominess, there's an undeniable artistry in the way Hopkins and cinematographer Lol Crawley tell the various stories of love and loss.
