"Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" brings back our favourite furry brothers, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Because of a freak accident involving Alvin and Dave Seville, they go to live with Dave Seville's cool cousin Toby and must enrol in school just like every other kid. School presents new challenges to these rock stars, like dealing with peer pressure, school sports and of course, girls! By "girls" we mean the Chipettes who are managed by Ian Hawke, the Chipmunks greedy former manager who wants to turn them into the next big thing. At the outset, there is a rivalry between the Chipettes and The Chipmunks but in the end they realise that they make great friends and a great musical team!

Alison Rowat's Review

Just when you thought it was safe to take the earplugs out, here come those singing chipmunks again. As the many who enjoyed the first picture will know, the chipmunks are like X-Factor winners: undeniably cute, enthusiastic, and they can sing and dance up a storm.

The “squeakquel” – and if that word alone doesn’t prompt a smile you have no business going along to this picture – finds Alvin and his brothers enduring the horrors of human school and some fierce rivalry in the form of a girl chipmunk band, The Chipettes.

Under pressure at home and in their professional lives, tensions threaten to pull the furry siblings apart. Hey, it happened to The Beatles. And Oasis.

Will there be tears before bedtime? Can chipmunks cry? More importantly, can they enter for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent?

In Betty Thomas’s film they can do just about anything, and very young cinemagoers will have a great time watching them try. For adults, the chipmunk singing style might be an acquired taste, but if you survived Pinky and Perky, you’ll survive these cats. Sorry, chipmunks.
